Why Locals Love Local Ocean Seafoods
Situated in the heart of Newport, Oregon, Local Ocean Seafoods offers an exceptional seafood dining experience that beautifully captures the essence of the Pacific Northwest’s coastal bounty. This vibrant restaurant and seafood market is a go-to destination for both locals and visitors who crave fresh, thoughtfully prepared seafood paired with an inviting atmosphere that feels simultaneously casual and refined.
Local Ocean Seafoods excels in showcasing the best of regional seafood through a diverse and inventive menu. Popular dishes like the Rockfish Tacos offer a delightful interplay of textures and flavors: battered fried rockfish with a lively shrimp spice, refreshing citrus slaw, and tangy huichol sauce wrapped in a warm corn tortilla. For those seeking a hearty option, the Beef Burger made with McK Ranch grassfed beef is perfectly cooked to order and accompanied by crispy fries—a comforting staple that satisfies even the most robust appetites.
Gluten-free diners are well-catered to with standout plates such as the Steamer Clams—one pound of Northwest-style clams gently steamed with garlic, shallots, white wine, and butter, delivering a taste of ocean freshness that’s both aromatic and rich. The Weathervane Scallops skewers, seared to perfection and served alongside grilled asparagus and smoky goat cheese, bring a sophisticated edge to gluten-free dining. Complementary house and Louie salads provide fresh, crisp counterpoints to the seafood-centric offerings.
What truly sets Local Ocean Seafoods apart is their inventive beverage program, especially their non-alcoholic and low-proof cocktails. The NA Bloody Mary and Non-Alcoholic Bloody Maria go beyond the usual, featuring complex layers of flavor with seared scallops, applewood smoked bacon, pimento-stuffed olives, and house-pickled vegetables—sure to delight those seeking a nuanced, alcohol-free sipping experience.
Guests consistently highlight not only the exceptional quality of the food but also the warm and attentive service. One diner, Eric Weiller, shared his experience of being expertly served at the bar by Brooke, noting that the halibut fish and chips were “absolutely delicious.” Others praise the atmosphere of the upstairs dining area for its cozy, intimate vibe and spectacular views, a perfect setting for special occasions or relaxed meals with friends and family.
The acclaim extends to signature seafood specialties such as the celebrated crab cakes, crab boil, and the uniquely flavored Fishwives Stew—a zesty, saffron-tinged tomato broth brimming with an array of fresh seafood, paired masterfully with garlic bread. These dishes inspire visitors like Annie Greenhalgh to call it “the best seafood of my life,” highlighting the restaurant’s ability to consistently deliver memorable and soul-satisfying meals.
Whether you're in Newport for a romantic lunch, a family celebration, or a casual solo meal, Local Ocean Seafoods invites you into a world where the ocean’s freshest gifts are prepared with passion and precision. It’s a place where every bite tells the story of the Northwest coast, and every visit feels like coming home to the ocean’s embrace.

I was eating alone. They brought me upstairs. I was expecting to sit at a table. They sat me at the bar for a brief moment. I wasn't thrilled, but I had Brooke as the server, and she was the bartender and my server. She gave me masterful service. The food was absolutely delicious. I went with the hallibut fish and chips, and I got the chocolate dessert that came in a chilled ramekin. It will just melt in your mouth. I was never more satisfied with having a meal. And the excellent service I received. I highly recommend you take the time to try out this restaurant when you're in Newport. If you don't get the opportunity to eat here when you're in Newport then it truly wasn't worth your trip.

The best crab boil and crab cakes I have ever had. The hostess was great, server was great. I recommend making a reservation for the upstairs, super nice area with a great view. The flan dessert was also great! We will be back!

Spent my 40th birthday here and we had such great food, drink and service that we came back the next day for a late lunch. We loved the crab cakes, oysters, crab and garlic soup, deviled eggs, scallops, maderia flight, and chocolate mousse. They made my birthday so special. I will definitely be back. I would honestly drive from Portland just for Local Ocean. Those crab cakes are next level. We had dinner upstairs for a more romantic night and we had lunch the next day to look out and enjoy the kitchen. Both are great experiences but the upstairs is a favorite. Make reservations before hand otherwise you might not get in with limited space. If you can get a table around sunset the views will be incredible upstairs. We were the last table of the night at 8:15 but the view was still nice. They automatically open all the blinds at sunset for everyone to enjoy. The staff were very kind and friendly and just as good as the food.

It was an incredible meal/experience. My wife and I went for a romantic lunch on vacation. We did a massive spread of various small dishes. The portion sizes were very generous. The seafood was very fresh and well prepared. The oysters were shucked excellently. The roasted garlic and dungeoness crab soup was out of this world good. They have the best crab cakes I’ve had in the PNW over the last 6 years. The steamer clams were a delight. My wife got the crab boil which had a pretty good size crab along with a good amount of shrimp and clams. The service was impeccable and we cannot wait to come back for another meal!

This was hands down the best seafood of my life! We ordered the Fishwives Stew and a daily special item, the NW Crab Boil. The Fishwives Stew reminded me a bit of a ciopinno in that it was a variety of seafood in a zesty tomato broth (which was distinct in that it had saffron & white wine) and it came with garlic bread! The NW Crab Boil had a bit of a spice to it and had different elements like fennel & andouille sausage; it also came with toast that you could dip in a spicy honey. They were both addictive dishes that we enjoyed every last drop of! Both had a fresh, locally caught, variety of seafood like large prawns, crab, clams, rockfish. We can’t wait to come back here again!

Well- balanced creation with every order! I visited Newport, hoping to make some gourmet seafood dinners as most restaurants in general disappoint us—not this place. I had Crab & Shrimp Louie and the green was fresh & clean, eggs perfectly done, and dressing was rich yet light-handed and complimented nicely with the seafood. My husband ordered Tuna Reuben and it was a WOW, too. My soup/chowder (crab) was unbelievable—not with that “the thicker, the better” mentality that I resent about most restaurants’ chowders. Theirs is what I find the standard most places could follow. Thank you…! Awww… They impressed me with the handling and construction of each dish that highlighted the ingredients. It was a lovely place serving American/Oregon bounty that reminded me of restaurants in southern France—casual dinning atmosphere with food that was prepared and served with great experience & pride. Needless to say, we returned the next day to dine there again—I will always visit there when I go to Newport. Thank you for making our weekend escape much more than we expected. We are already talking about visiting Newport, just so we can dine at this place.. (from Portland, Oregon)

My fiance and I loved our lunch at Local Ocean. My rockfish italiano sandwich was fantastic (the fish was flaky and delicious and matched perfectly with the other deli meats on the sandwich), the crab cake we shared was delicious, and my fiance's fish and chips were really great (they were breaded and crispy-- different than the usual battered and fried fish and chips I've tried from anywhere else, but the fish here was delicious)! When I was researching a place to stop for lunch, this place was very highly recommended and I can see why. Next time we make our way through Newport, I would love to try some of the soups/stews since they seemed absolutely incredible. Looking forward to being back here again some day!

We stopped for dinner during a road trip. The atmosphere was perfect, great food but pretty chill vibes. We enjoyed a sampling of their menu. The chowder was incredible and so flavorful. While not traditional it was a great spin on a classic dish. The oysters and deviled eggs were delicious and fresh. The winter salad subbed with fresh caught Lingcod was exceptional. The salads unique flavor profile complimented the fish well. The lingcod was so fresh and seared to perfection. I would highly recommend a stop!
